Ongoing project: TROUPES + TRIBES documenting modern subcultures; exploring themes of custom, costume, and community.

BEACHED WHALE  I joined the others on the long walk to see the dead whale. On it’s side, fin in the air, it was magnificent and enormous, more rusted sculpture than sea-creature. I watched people come and go; some took selfies, some a closer look. Most gestures were kind; flowers were left by the mouth, a sympathy card placed at the tail. These girls, completely unprompted, collected cobblestones and made little piles. I asked them why, “for the whale” they said. Pure and true. Trestles Beach, San Clemente  [ Featured in NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC’s Daily Dozen + HuffPost.com ]
